Public Interest in the Earthquake Insurance Grows But Dissemination Rate remains at 17.2%(Aug 31, 2004)

The GIAJ is having an Earthquake Insurance Campaign from August 23 to September 5 and will be promoting Earthquake Insurance on Dwelling Risks through the media during this period.

The national average dissemination rate of Earthquake Insurance policies increased to 17.2%, at the end of March 2004, up 0.8 points over the previous year, according to the Non-Life Insurance Rating Organization of Japan. This might be due to occurrences of big earthquakes in Tohoku and Hokkaido last year and an expected Tokai earthquake that raised public worry and pushed up the dissemination rate.

Notes

Dissemination rate = the number of contracts in force / the number of household registered in the Basic Resident Register x 100

The GIAJ has tried to promote Earthquake Insurance policies providing information so that people could understand policy cover and its necessity.
